Frequently Asked Questions
Will you provide the gear?
Yes! We will provide the equipment and gear needed for the simulation.
What should we plan for?
Each team should plan for a 15-minute simulation followed by a debrief. The debrief is an opportunity to review your performance, discuss clinical decisions, and learn from the experience.
What if I only have one person?
Teams are made up of two people, but don't worry if you only have one! We can help you find a partner or combine you with another participant who also needs a teammate.
When is it?
The detailed schedule will be published closer to the event. The current plan is:
-
Tuesday: 911 Track
-
Wednesday: Critical Care
-
Thursday: Competition
What's within the limits?
Scenarios will stay within the scope of the Alabama EMS Protocols. Come prepared to use your clinical knowledge, assessment skills, and protocols to work through the scenario.
Do I need previous simulation or competition experience?
No! Whether you're experienced with simulation or this is your first competition, you're welcome to participate. The goal is to challenge yourself, work as a team, and learn.
How should I prepare?
Review the Alabama EMS Protocols, brush up on patient assessment and treatment priorities, and practice communicating clearly with your partner. You don't need to memorize a script—the scenario is designed to test how you think and work together.
What should I bring?
Bring anything you would normally need for the event, including appropriate clothing and personal items. Simulation equipment will be provided.
Do I need to wear a uniform?
Uniforms are encouraged for the competition but are not required. Come dressed in whatever you are comfortable working and participating in.
How will teams be evaluated?
Teams will be evaluated on their ability to assess the patient, recognize priorities, make appropriate clinical decisions, communicate effectively, and provide care within the Alabama EMS Protocols.
What if I make a mistake?
That's part of the learning process! The debrief is designed to help you understand what went well, identify opportunities for improvement, and learn from the experience.
Can I participate in more than one track?
If participants are allowed to compete in multiple tracks, you need to register twice.
